Designed and produced 54 panels for Carter Observatory visitor experience.
I worked with designer Dean Cato at Story Inc to design and produce the panels for the Carter Observatory visitor experience in Wellington which opened 27 March 2010. It was 5 months intensive work to put together all the panels telling the stories of the Universe and the Solar System, Maori cosmology, NZ astronomers, telescopes and other astronomy stories.
It was a perfect job for me, enabling me to use my knowledge of astronomy and science. Some panels were floor to ceiling, 3 metres tall and required very big files. We sourced these photos from NASA and other space agencies and also some NZ astronomers.
I had to get a new HP Z400 workstation to process all these huge files. I out-put a variety of PDF and TIFF files which Peter at DAC output in lovely clean 3M graphics. There was a mix of front lit and back light graphics all of which look stunning. Go and see for yourself, Carter Observatory is open 7 days a week ...
